The luxury brand introduces its powerful, yet sophisticated, Grand Prix de Monaco Historique collection. Swiss watch brand Chopard has served as a partner, and as an official timekeeper, of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique since 2002. The grand prix, held every two years since 1997 and considered by many to be one of the most prestigious races in the world, features race cars that date from the prewar period up to the 1970s. The event’s combination of prestige and history, and his own love of classic cars, inspired Chopard Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele to create the new Grand Prix de Monaco Historique timepiece line as a way to support the competitors taking part in the race. The collection boasts two limited-series chronographs in either shot-blasted titanium and stainless steel or 18-karat rose gold. Of the former, 500 editions were released, while 100 editions of the rose gold are available. Both versions are inspired by the bodywork of historical cars and are outfitted with pushers designed to look like engine pistons and gray bezels ideal for calculating average racing speeds. The watches also sport interchangeable straps: a gray strap with racing stripes in orange and blue for a relaxed, yet rugged look, or a barenia calfskin strap emblazoned with orange and blue stitching for a bit of eye-catching elegance in the spirit of the drivers of yesteryear. Whether you choose the rose gold or titanium model, with Chopard’s new collection one thing is assured: You’re taking first place in every race. The metallic silver-gray features of the GRAND PRIX DE MONACO HISTORIQUE 2016 RACE EDITION IN 18-KARAT ROSE GOLD timepiece call to mind the elegant bodywork of a vintage car, $21,300, at chopard.com.
