Living legend Carolina Herrera remains a leading luminary of the wedding world as she celebrates 35 years of dazzling design. “Designing a bridal collection is always fascinating because it has to be full of fantasy and, at the same time, be appropriate for a traditional ceremony,” says fashion icon Carolina Herrera. The Venezuelan- American fashion designer has dressed leading ladies like Caroline Kennedy, Olivia Palermo, Amy Smart and Renee Zellweger for their walks on the red carpet and down the aisle. This fall, Herrera celebrated 35 years in fashion with a new book, Carolina Herrera: 35 Years of Fashion ($75, Rizzoli). The celebratory tome features magazine editorials from the past 3 ½ decades as well as a portfolio of new photographs that capture looks from the House of Herrera’s archive. Since introducing her first bridal collection in 1987, Herrera has applied her dazzling eye for detail to making each bride’s day unforgettable. “I feel that the bride has to look magical and romantic, and I always remember that when designing,” she says. “I try to keep the collections and details fresh through new materials,” Herrera reveals as the secret to her sartorial staying power. This fashion house also recently debuted the CH Carolina Herrera Insignia collection geared toward her next generation of fashion fans. “We decided to reinvent the CH monogram and embrace the spirit of the brand with clean lines and uncomplicated designs,” explains Herrera, who says the collection also offers effortlessly elegant jewelry. “The bracelets are fantastic!” She adds, “I want my designs to highlight the beauty of the bride. It is my job to make her feel her most beautiful on the most important day of her life!” I DO’S Handwritten notes; fresh flowers like peonies, garden roses or lilies of the valley in small bouquets; invitations in calligraphy I DON’TS Selfies; overly sexy wedding gowns (you want to look timeless); black weddings—the bride looks more romantic in white
