Hard to believe that we are at the start of another year, and one that is already proving to be exciting. Whether you’re living, working or playing in Houston, our city has much to offer. The opportunities are endless, and each day across the region our residents have a chance to dream big and make anything happen. That ‘can–do’ spirit is what makes Houston great, and at the Partnership, we work hard to do our part to bring this mantra to life. As the region’s principal business organization, the Greater Houston Partnership champions economic development and sound public policy, while also convening Houston leaders on key regional issues. In this issue of Opportunity Houston, you’ll find a wide range of stories highlighting Houston’s limitless opportunities in business, arts and culture and of course… sports! A Countdown to Kickoff feature will bring you up to speed on final preparations underway for Super Bowl LI. Certainly a story you don’t want to miss! Turning to what Houston has to offer in the creative sector, there are two relevant pieces. Creative Boomtown provides an overview of the varied arts and culture offerings across our city. Often times hidden beneath the radar, Houston’s creative community is placed center stage in this piece. In keeping with the theme of creative opportunities, the Commerce of Creativity feature provides a unique and eye-opening perspective on how the creative services sector contributes to the local economy. Rounding out this month’s features is our regular Economic Forecast and a feature on Workplace Design. In the Economic Forecast, the Partnership’s Patrick Jankowski, shares his insight on which markets will likely see recovery in 2017 and where we will continue to see a bit of lag. All indications are that Houston remains poised to rebound from last years’ sluggish oil prices, but patience will be key. Our Workplace Design feature highlights the changing landscape of office space in Houston. The growing trend of open concept offices is noted in the article, and you’ll hear perspectives on this trend shared by local workspace designers and architects. Lastly, our Limitless Houston and Heartbeat of Houston columns highlight the entrepreneurial spirit that continues to thrive in our city. These features, coupled with the Regional Updates, remind us that Houston remains a city of opportunity where anyone who works hard can achieve their dreams. As we start 2017, it is evident that we have a blank canvas before us where we can continue to create the vision for a thriving community and build on our past successes. The opportunities are limitless in Houston, and the Partnership remains committed to doing its part to help foster economic prosperity and build a community in which all Houstonians can live, work and play.
