FORCE OF NATURE HOUSTON’S LAUNCH EVENT WILL SHOWCASE THE CITY’S UP-AND-COMING DESIGNERS. AS REPRESENTATIVES OF HOUSTON’S NOTABLE AND DIVERSE FASHION COMMUNITY, DESIGNERS EMBODY THE RICH AND VARIED TAPESTRY THAT MAKE HOUSTON THE MOST DIVERSE CITY IN AMERICA. When all eyes are on Houston next month for Super Bowl LI, there will be more than those playing in the big game to be showcased on the international stage. Thanks to the creative concepting of Sydney Dao, a Houston based merchandising and design expert and live-event project manager, a group of emerging designers will have the opportunity to debut their talents in LAUNCH, an exclusive pop-up shop that will be located along the Avenida de las Americas and open from January 14 through February 26. LAUNCH is not only a nod to Houston as the “Space City,” the name also references the “launch” of emerging designers from Houston's growing creative community. The pop-up shop aims to promote and educate visitors and Houstonians alike of the highlevel of goods designed and/or produced in the Bayou City. The 2,000-square-foot ground floor of Partnership Tower, located at 701 Avenida de las Americas, near Discovery Green, will be transformed into a sprawling stage of sorts that will feature a group of select individuals from Houston’s thriving fashion and design community. Squid Inc, Dao’s production company, has partnered with the Houston First Corporation, to make this popup shop showcase a reality. The pop-up shops will feature 13 designers, including two individuals who made the interior space come to life for the showcase. Dao herself hand-selected all of the designers who will be featured when LAUNCH kicks off, and more designers are to be confirmed shortly after the shops open. The featured Houston designers include Merchant & Market home furnishings, muralist Janavi M. Folmsbee, designs by Chloe Dao and Onyii, RongRong Devoe Fashion Illustrations, Kisa Kisa handbags, Stateline Designs T-shirts, Claire Drennan Knitwear and more. As representatives of Houston’s notable and diverse fashion community, they embody the rich and varied tapestry that make Houston the most diverse city in America. Dao, with almost 20 years of experience in the fashion industry in New York and Houston, is excited to offer an international platform to local designers. “Designers and artisans are creating and producing elevated, high-quality goods. It is time to show the world that one can have a successful creative brand out of Houston.
