The once-humble slide sandal has re-emerged as spring’s most exciting footwear silhouette. If you think athleisure is on its way out, think again. The ground-gaining fashion movement has crept all the way down to the feet, where it has resurrected a decades-old footwear style: the slide sandal. A staple of sportswear brands like Adidas and Nike, the backless, flat shoe showed up in the spring and summer 2017 collections of top-tier designers like Miu Miu, which recently unveiled a candy-colored selection of satin-covered slides, some adorned with rows of pearls.Jewelry aside, much of the shoe’s appeal has to do with its subtlety. “Slides are, by nature, easy and effortless,” says Jessie Randall, designer and co-founder of the New York-based footwear brand Loeffler Randall, which launched in 2004. “A relaxed, luxurious vibe is having a moment now in fashion. Our Loeffler Randall girl loves to wear things that are laid-back, but can also be dressed up, so slides make perfect sense for our company.” With warmer temperatures on the horizon, the brand has debuted its Kiki flat slide, a single-banded, open-toe leather sandal topped with tassels—the perfect finishing touch to any outfit. Mystique’s handmade CHEYENNE sandals offer the classic black-andwhite color combination delivered with fun, eye-catching texture, $195, at Montage boutiques. Valentino’s bold BEADED LEATHER SLIDE SANDALS catch the eye with swirls of psychedelic embellishments, $1,175, at barneys.com. Topped with multicolored pompoms, the SAL SLIDE SANDAL from Loeffler Randall is a cheerful option that’s perfect for spring, $350, at loefflerrandall.com. Tory Burch’s VAIL EMBELLISHED SLIDE SANDAL pairs ring-framed crystals with pearly dome studs and blue leather for an exciting spring piece, $225, at toryburch.com.
