Warm up with this handcrafted hot beverage that will keep you feeling warm and toasty until spring. On cool evenings, a classic cup of hot chocolate is like a childhood memory in a mug. And while cocoa powder, a bit of sweetener and a few fluffy marshmallows will always hit the spot—and satisfy a sweet tooth—an extra ingredient or two can really heat things up. At Montage Laguna Beach, to get the smooth flavor of its luscious Lavender Orange Blossom Hot Chocolate, Executive Pastry Chef Lee Smith spares no expense of time. Fresh lavender steeps in cream for a day to create a comforting nod to nighttime and a dash of Orange Blossom water gives a zesty tribute to Orange County’s orange groves. Lavender Orange Blossom Hot Chocolate Ingredients: 1 head fresh lavender 2 cups whole milk 2/3 cup cream 3/4 cup dark brown sugar 3/4 cup dark chocolate, finely chopped 1 drop orange blossom water Method: Cold steep a head of fresh lavender flowers in the milk and cream overnight. Remove the lavender and add the brown sugar; heat until boiling. Pour hot milk/cream over the chocolate, which has been previously chopped. Allow the chocolate to melt, then whisk smooth. Add a drop of orange blossom water and whisk vigorously until frothy. Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream, then add lavender flowers and oranges slices for garnish.
